What is Feng Shui or Chinese Interior Design? How the Life Force Energy Can be Harmonized to Make your Environment Healthier, Wealthier and Happier...

Feng Shui, also known as "Chinese Interior Design" is the ancient science of harmonizing the life force energies within nature. The Chinese believe that "Chi" or the naturally occurring life force energy within the environment is able to be harnessed to bring good fortune and create healthy, beneficial conditions to a building. Whether it be Feng Shui for the Home, Feng Shui for the Office, Feng Shui for the Bedroom or your desk at work, the subtle energies of Feng Shui (ie the art of arrangement) can help you to harmonize with the environment to create a better life.

Literally translated, the words "Feng Shui" mean 'wind and water' and this describes the way in which these subtle life force energies will flow within the environment to shape the land. The Chinese believed that:

"The Energy Dissipated by the Wind...
Stops at the Boundary of Water..."

Ultimately, this means that the subtle life force energy called 'Chi' can be gathered and harnessed to bring good fortune and this is not untrue. The Ancient Chinese Masters of Feng Shui recognized that 'Chi' was naturally occurring in all living things. For instance, acupuncture is based upon the understanding that 'Chi' flows through our meridians or the invisible lines of energy within the body that governs the health of the body. Martial Arts recognizes that 'Chi' can be harnessed to deflect and protect against attacks. Likewise, the ancient Masters of Feng Shui recognized that when man aligned himself with the naturally occurring forces of good 'Chi' energy in nature, he would experience 'Good Fortune' and when he aligned himself with disturbed, negative or stagnant 'Chi' energy, he would experience Bad Luck, difficulty and obstacles. Therefore, the aim of Feng Shui is to harmonize the life force within an environment through the use of interior design, architecture, arrangement and the objective is to harness these enhanced energies so that they can flow favorably around us and increase the good fortune in people's lives.

In reality, Feng Shui is based upon using the principles the Ancient Masters of Feng Shui observed and discovered thousands of years ago. These used these ancient principles to shape the environment using simple Chinese Interior Design or Architectural means.

These principles include the use of Feng Shui Astrology to determine the flow of Chi in a building construction; then the 'art of arrangement' to re-arrange the flow of positive energy within the building environment. The original principles of Feng Shui also include the organization, grouping and aligning of people and objects within the structure of their buildings to receive this increase the "people experience" or positive energy within the building environment. Put simply, Feng Shui is like Tai Chi and Acupuncture for your building - combined.

Ultimately, the study of Feng Shui includes determining the interior design and architectural layout within a building and it examines the impact of form and shape within an environment: how the life force travels, distributes, gathers (and forms a relationship to the Interior Design and/or Architecture) as well as the more intricate understandings of the Lo Pan compass, Feng Shui Astrology (for people) and how the time and space elements to Feng Shui will influence the environment.

Feng Shui encourages proper alignment to the environmental forces within a building and it uses Feng Shui tools such as interior design, architecture, Feng Shui arrangement, placement, and adding special items to the environment or building structure to harmonize, re-balance and create the best conditions for each person uniquely.
